Appearing on every package of Shinshu-ichi miso is the innocent face of a cute little girl, Miko-chan. This character, created by the artist Hiroshi Nishihara, originally didn't have a name, but in 1962 a nationwide campaign was held using television and newspapers to invite the public to come up with a name. In the end, Miko-chan was chosen from over the 100,000 entries. Incidentally, Shin-chan, is Miko-chan's younger brother. |
